Billie Dean Gibson was born August 8, 1926  and died August 8, 2011 on her 85th birthday in Oxnard, California.  She was born in Beebe, Arkansas and lived there until 1944 when she then moved to California.  She married Duane Slack on November 11, 1945 and proudly carried out the role of a Navy wife for 22 years.  Billie and Duane were married for 27 years until his death in 1972.  A few years later Billie  married Eugene “Gene” Gibson. They were married for 37 years until his death on April 24, 2011.

Billie Dean was always proud to tell everyone that she was an Arkansas girl.  Her memories of Beebe were told to her children and grandchildren many times.   Billie Dean’s great-grandparents were early settlers (Holland, Harrison and Moore) to White and Lonoke County and she would tell us of her experiences visiting her great-grandparents as a young girl.  When asked what was one of her happiest moments, she would quickly tell us of her selection as a cheerleader.  She considered her high school friends to still be her friends though they did not stay in contact often.  One of her ways to stay connected to Beebe was to subscribe to The Beebe Times.  She always looked forward to the paper arriving in the mail each week.

Billie Dean is survived by her daughters Diane (Dan) Shada, Bonnie (Bill) Williams, son John (Tammy) Holland Slack, step-daughters Mary Remijan, Teresa Gann, Gina Gibson, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
