What’s Left?

Tuesday’s Little Rock temp and heat index was 106 and 119, respectively.  When I went past the school sign Tuesday, their temp said 98 or 99. I don’t know where their thermometer is but it must have been a few feet under the ground.  Right now (Tues. night)  it is 106 heat index in Little Rock at 10 p.m. How amazing. Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter. I’ve been putting ice cubes in my dog’s water and pouring water on them around 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. It’s just too hot. We’ve kept our shades drawn on most of the windows, too. That helps. I’ve kept my cats off the screened in porch. They are so silly. They will stay out there even if they are sweltering. OK - maybe cats don’t swelter - but when they are really, really hot - some of them will still not come back in to the air conditioned room. I know cats are little heat-seekers but I worry about them getting dehydrated. So, I will go out there and bring them in all week to help keep them cooler.

I feel sorry for the other animals - but I guess they are somewhat used to it. Even if they went to a pond and got in, the water temp is high and that increases the chances of having the bad bacteria growing. I guess that is nature’s way of getting rid of the weaker animals. Still, it is sad.  I’ve been keeping the bird baths filled but I haven’t seen that many birds in them for some reason. I have seen a lot of Cardinals eating our figs from our fig tree/bush. I bet those taste good to them.

Well, it’s only a few days until school starts - Aug. 17th. It will be here before you know it. If you haven’t taken a vacation yet - I hope you can find time to book some time at a pool somewhere.

Stay cool. See you next week!

Go to your happy place!
