What’s Left? By Lee McLane Editor/PublisherNov 18th, 2010 | By admin | Category: Opinion
It’s November. Not my favorite month - but as I get older, Thanksgiving is becoming almost my favorite holiday - just behind July 4th. I think it is because I realize how important it is to be thankful in everything. It’s hard to be thankful when you feel you’ve been wronged or you feel someone has taken advantage of you. When I was younger, I would always make an excuse for someone who I felt did something “to” me. So, I would give them an excuse; I’d forgive them and go on. That’s the most healthy thing to do. But for some reason, as you get older and “wiser” you find it harder to give excuses. I don’t know why that is but I am trying to revamp my “giving excuses” - not to say that I’ve been wronged very much - because all in all - I am treated quite well by everyone. So, for that, I am very thankful. I believe we should all be treated well. I will always remember - a lifetime ago - when I was attending xray technology school, my main instructor told us, “You should treat each patient as if she is your grandmother. And I LOVE my grandmother and would find it very hard not to punish someone who did not treat her well.” Those words have stuck with me as a good rule to go by when treating anyone you come in contact with. Also, once our preacher said we should drive as if the person in front of you is your preacher. That would take care of lots of road rage, wouldn’t it?
So, even though we will have one more newspaper before Thanksgiving (coming out next week on Wednesday), I wanted you to know that being thankful, in my opinion, is one of the keys to having a happy life.
I am thankful to all of you who choose to subscribe to The Beebe News or buy one out of the rack each week. You help me buy cat food, cat medicine, vet visits, etc. Thank you!
Go to your happy place (maybe we should rename Beebe to Happy Place).
See you next week!
