Each year - as we pass holiday after holiday - it always amazes me at how quickly and with what a massive merchandising effort the Halloween holiday hits the shelves. Of course, now it is mid-September - and the shelves of local merchants have had Halloween decorations out for at least 2 weeks now. I [...]
A couple of weeks ago I wrote in this column about a public government is like household management. Well, right after that meeting - but after we had already gone to press - the city powers that be decided that putting a sales tax option on the November ballot was not a good idea - [...]
Hope you all had a great Labor Day! I was thinking about that holiday and realized it’s the only one that doesn’t actually entail me “covering” something. OK - now next year someone will have a Labor Day Parade….that would be fine. But right now - it’s just a “bonus” holiday for me - even [...]
Last night I attended the monthly City Council meeting. During the meeting I was thinking how much public government is like your household management. You have to balance things that you need with things that you want and every once in awhile you get an “emergency/disaster” thrown in the mix. At last night’s meeting they [...]
Well, summer is really over - maybe not officially- Autumn officially begins Sept. 23rd - but since school started this week - it is, in reality, over for most of us. And this week may end up being the hottest week of the summer. We had a big rain storm yesterday (Monday) afternoon and then [...]
Looks like this is the last “free” week for you students of Beebe Public Schools. I hope you’ve had a great summer and have lots of energy and desire to get back to school and make it a great school year. It’s always exciting going back and meeting friends and starting a new grade. I [...]
At last week’s city council meeting, the issue of stray cats in the city was brought up. (See story on front page). And that is so true! We have lots of stray cats - more than we’ve had in a long time. I believe - when you look at the reproduction rate of cats - [...]
I am sad this week at the loss of my friend, Dr. Ruth Couch. But I am not alone - there are so many people here in Beebe and around the state - that called Dr. Ruth Couch their friend.
I first met Dr. Couch many years ago when she was my instructor at ASU-Beebe in [...]
I hope you are having a good summer! I don’t have a lot to say this week other than the days of summer are quickly dwindling to an end.
I remember when I was a kid and it seemed like summer lasted forever. And I was active and had lots to do but the three months [...]
Can you believe the weather we’re having this week? Wow! Today (Tues.) the weather feels like Fall. The temperature is about 83-degrees but the humidity is very low for July in Arkansas. It’s great. But - I’m here at work and not getting to enjoy the weather outside. But I’m glad some of you are.
